This year we've changed the structure of our competitions to allow for a wider variety of entries. The Poetry Competition remains the same, but we have changed the Short Story and Say What You Think Competitions to Fiction and Non-Fiction respectively.
We're not sure why, but we've never identified the winners of our competitions, so this year we have, along with the name at the end of each piece so that readers won't be prejudiced by expectations as they start to read!
Another change is that, beginning with this edition, selected pieces from Typhoon will be available on the internet. We're just putting up the competition winners this time, with pretty basic presentation; next year we hope to have a more varied Typhoon site and to include the whole magazine.
As usual, we are indebted to all the people who have contributed to Typhoon: the teachers who've inspired their students, the office staff who've helped with printing and, of course, the students themselves, without whose imagination, energy and commitment this magazine would not exist.
We would like to thank Mrs Maree Pascoe in particular for helping with the typing of material that couldn't be scanned or wasn't available on disk or through e-mail.
The cover is by Debbie Liew and was printed by Mayford Company. The interior pages were typed, typeset, printed, collated and bound at Island School. We used Acorn RiscPC computers and Impression Desktop Publishing software. Some of our students‘ writing was scanned and then read using Sleuth2 OCR software.
